Why Tiles Need Maintenance

Although many types of tiles are recommended for their durability and water repellent qualities, they still need some level of basic upkeep to make sure that they continue to look good, as well as lasting for years to come. Grit and dirt can cause abrasion on tile surfaces, for instance, while unsightly soap scum, hard water deposits and mildew can all mount up on bathroom or kitchen walls.

To help minimise the possibility of longer term damage and to make cleaning as easy as possible, it pays to always use the right product for the task in hand. A good quality sealant on grout joints shortly after installation, for example, will prevent water absorption, bacterial growth and staining. And natural stone tiles, which are porous, should also be sealed periodically for the same reasons.
